It really is amazing what you can sell by mail. Almost anything I guess. And if you keep your eyes open you’ll soon start to see good ads which sell off the page.
And I’m not talking about those pithy ads which are full of fluff and no substance. And a fancy smarty pants tag line. no I’m talking about ads which actually sell to you. Because that’s what good advertising is. Salesmanship in print.
Take this ad I’m taking a closer look at today.
The Sunday Times has been a rich picking ground for direct response ads recently. And this last Sunday was no exception.
There was a half page ad in the ‘Home’ section selling your own ‘mini orchard’, consisting of three fruit trees; an apple, pear and plum tree.
They’re 5ft high and ready to go. And as the ad explains you can ‘grow them on your patio, balcony or garden’.
What a great mind picture that is having your own mini orchard growing on your own balcony.
Also notice a couple of upsells in the ad.
When you buy you’re offered the further opportunity to add a cherry and another apple tree to your order. And at a giveaway price. (Nice turn of phrase there.) Plus there’s the opportunity to purchase fertiliser to your order. After all who wouldn’t want their trees to flourish straight away.
Why has the company done this?
Because the hottest buyer is the most recent buyer. Be interesting to know the average spend of customers.
Other factors to notice which appeal to prospects;
Heavy fruiting yields.
50% off catalogue prices.
Money back guarantee.
Free pocket gardening guide.
All in all a great ad. Especially with the colour pictures.
What do you think?
Until next time.
Warmly
Mark
